Golden Globes 2016 Style Watch!

When we are looking for inspiration, we tend to look to the stars; not the ones in the sky, the stars on the red carpet!!  2016 awards season, aka 'Pinterest-worthy-wedding-day-hair-dress-and-style-porn-season'  was rung in last night in cutting, sly style by Ricky Gervais as he hosted the Golden Globes Awards.  For the next few weeks, we'll see the good, the bad and the interesting in fashion choices, as we breeze through a parade of award shows - some of the notable ones including the Critics' Choice, Producers Guild, Screen Actors Guild, Directors Guild, Writers Guild, BAFTA's, and then the grand-daddy of them all, the Oscars.  The effects of the next few weeks will influence and inspire what brides, grooms, wedding parties and guests will want to wear this upcoming wedding season!

As a warm-up, here are some of my favourite looks of the night.... enjoy!

Rooney Mara's braid - sleek from the front but such a cool, unexpected silhouette and look! This hair made her look go from okay (the dress wasn't bad..... but it wasn't that great, you know?)

One braid to rule them all....

Viola Davis' dress -  this look wasn't for everyone but I loved it so much.... Starry-Night-meets-Star-Wars. Love.

Cate Blanchett's fringe - Ok, I know this dress will definitely be a polarizing choice.  Cate Blanchett has taken a lot of fashion risks and is always a best-dressed for me! But when you look closely, the dress had lovely detailing, some sheer panelling, and with the hair, the look was positively vintage! What cinched it for me though, was the movement and fluidity of that fringe! I mean, look at the swish of the fringe in this picture!

Rachel McAdams' floral strapless - it was a big print but so, so romantic. Her hair was soft and she looked dreamy. Very, very pretty!

Kirsten Dunst's black velvet - the cleavage was deep, the glamour was upped to the nth degree but the velvet made the dress so much more!

Judith Light's tuxedo - Angela Bower, to all of us '80's kids! The cut on this suit was so crisp, so mint, and in a sea of dresses with cut-outs, organza and fluttery movement, this suit was unexpectedly swoon-worthy! #creamsteeze

Eva Longoria's flowers - another example of #creamsteeze, the bow detailing at the neckline was delicate, the flowers were a sweet detail that punctuated the delicate feel of this dress. Lovely!

Laverne Cox's one-word descriptor: Flawless.

Olivia Palermo- cocktail length + bold pattern = new spin on strapless. Plus, pockets!

Jennifer Lopez's yellow stunner - a cape and thigh-high slit. Yes!

Regina King's mixed metallics - Priyanka Chopra warmed us up to the idea last week at the People's Choice Awards last week; Regina King drove the point home this week. Mixing your precious metals is a winning combination!
