Idea Roundup!

Sometimes things change so fast that if you blink, you’ll miss some very cool stuff! Every day there’s a new dance, slang, app, haircut. hot cuisine, colour, celeb obsession and meme – and it can be dizzying, the vast amount of choices. So it’s not surprising that there are new ideas popping up every day when it comes to weddings; the hot flowers, the new food trend, décor inspirations, the ‘It’ dress or shoe and everything in-between. I’ve been seeing the ’It’ cake more and more  – the Chandelier Cake or Hanging Gardens Cake (the topsy-turvy cake of choice for Kaley Cuoco’s recent nuptials)  Here’s an idea of what one looks like, and a link to a few more beautiful examples:

22 Chandelier Wedding Cakes That Will Make You Very, Very Nervous

The Chandelier Cake is the tip of the new food iceberg (foodberg?) when it comes to weddings – in some cases, people are subbing in donuts and cronuts, pastel-pretty macarons, or even cheese wheels instead of traditional cakes; designer poutine, artistan pizza, candy and sno-cone stations, and milk-and-cookie bars are cropping up more and more!  Wedding locations  are becoming more creative and inventive whether it’s due to their actual location (aquariums and art museums) or visually stunning décor and individualization and thinking outside the box are creating memorable days and nights.  Here’s a roundup of some new ideas:

The Knot's 10 Hot New Wedding Trends for 2015!

I’m still dreaming of  a carnival-themed wedding to be featured somewhere, a Big Top adventure featuring a decadent grown-up hotdog cart where you can get your dogs (both meat and veggie) dressed with anything from lobster and burrata to chocolate-dipped bacon rashers,  acrobats and contortionists milling about, a Tiny Tom truck set up beside a cotton candy machine and fireworks at midnight! If you find out about the aforementioned kind of wedding, drop me a line and direct me to the hotdog cart please!!

A Very ‘You’ Kind of Wedding

“Today You are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is Youer than You.”
Dr. Seuss might have written books for kids, but he was a clever one, that Dr. Seuss! He hoped that his simple but eloquent messages would resonate with the grown-ups who were reading his works and remind them of some of the universe’s truths, and inspire the young ears and minds hearing them. His books and words  resonate with kids from one to ninety-nine. And this one line has always stuck with me. So it’s in this spirit that I present you all with this wedding recently featured on Buzzfeed:

One Wedding to Rule Them All...

So. Much. Win.
This couple’s wedding is a testament to Dr. Seuss’s sentiment and each detail – from the boutonnieres to the gorgeous Save-the-Date and invitations, all the way to the unique and outside-the-box backdrop – is a reflection of the uniqueness and personalities of the Bride and Groom!
So, we get to the meat of the post, so to speak… And it’s a simple truth: Please don’t forget to invite yourself to your wedding!
I haven’t lost my mind, I promise! Yes, of course you’re going to be there, but what about the ‘you’-ness that will set your wedding apart from everyone else? To take a page out of our Superhero Couple’s (comic) book – what’s YOUR definer? There are things that are a part of each and every one of us – say, our favourite movie that we can quote almost line for line; the season of the year that makes us feel alive (even if it IS the dead of winter!); the places we go, both deep in the pages of our favourite books and Wardrobes and Spare-Ooms, or the streets of the cities that beckon us again and again. It’s the love you have for these things, how much you embrace them, that make them become synonymous with you among the people in your lives; these are some of the things that define us. And if a wedding is a celebration of love, then this is the perfect time to include these things we love – and build a day that is yours, through and through!
One more, a wedding shoot idea from Buzzfeed to give you some food (or lettuce?) for thought:

One Night, Many Options!

When I think of a Bachelor or Bachelorette party, I think of drunken shenanigans straight out of a movie – think The Hangover meets Coyote Ugly with the sharp wit of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.   Hollywood has either set the bar incredibly, impossibly high or lost the plot altogether!   The idea of a Bachelor or Bachelorette party can sometimes become a claustrophobic concept  filled with pressure;  it’s billed as  the ‘last night of freedom’ for our Bride or Groom, almost as if tying the knot means that good times are off the table moving forward,  so they might as well get in all the drinking/dancing/flirting/partying they can before the shackles go on.  And nothing could be further from the truth!   Newflash: There WILL be fun times post-wedding -  fun with friends, nights that go into the wee hours of the morning with no signs of slowing down, and many, many more chances to make memories….
A few years ago, Jezebel featured a piece on throwing a great bachelorette party and I loved every sentiment, so I thought that I’d pass this one along in case anyone is in the pre-planning stages of a party and might want an alternate point of view!
