Wednesday Win: Makeup for the ladies you love!

Photo via vampyvarnish.com

You know those days when you feel like a little pick-me-up, a cheap and cheerful treat that hits the spot? Normally for me, the ticket is something edible and dangerously laden with sugar, cream, butter and all the most delicious things in life that make my waistline a little more... Well. Just more of a waist, I guess! So, imagine how happy I was to find a calorie-free way to shake things up and smile from ear-to-ear. Now..... imagine if you could spread the love (and buzz and style) to the ladies in your life and your partners in wedding madness? Well, sweet (cosmetic) dreams are made of this:

I'd been seeing Colourpop cosmetics coming up in Buzzfeed style posts (yes, another Buzzfeed shout-out... Seriously, what CAN'T you read about there? When you're done reading this post, I dare you to go to the site and NOT find posts that you pass on!)  When I saw references to 'great wear length' and 'MAC dupe' or 'just like NARS _______ lip colour!' I had to check it out and after disappearing down the rabbit hole chasing a grillion colour swatch pictures, online reviews, and YouTube product testing videos, I emerged in a state of Nude Lip Lust (an actual thing, I have been dying to find a My Lip But Better shade for ages and have been notoriously let down!) and placed an order. I got a small army of lippie stix (their name for lipsticks, these babies come in roughly a million shades, in matte - gulp, my Achilles heel! - sheer, glossy, hyper-glossy, creme and pearlized finishes) as well as a pair of eye shadows because they got constant raves for being crazy-pigmented, and a lip liner.

*~More reasons to let the sunshine in!~*

Guys.... They did NOT disappoint. I am seriously planning my next order, as well as gifts for a certain amazing sister who is the real make-up maven, and a certain daughter who is finally embracing the power of a pretty lip and a cat eye! I now have two MLBB lippies and the eyeshadow, swapped on my UNPRIMED naked eyelid that was so gorgeous, my Too Faced Sexy palette cried! I had to pass along this company because the price points are not to be missed - when you factor in the exchange from U.S to Canadian dollars, the lippies and eye shadows come in at under $7 - SEVEN DOLLARS, WHAT? - for some seriously gooooooooood quality product. If you're looking for a a loooong-lasting lip colour, they also have the Ultra Matte Lip that will be about $8.

If having all these lip colours is wrong, then I don't want to be right. Ever.

Pretty..... So so pretty! From romantic to natural, to dramatic, to poptastic!

They also have bronzes and highlighters for all your contouring and strobing needs?  If you sign up for their updates, you can score  deals like discounts on total purchases or in specific items (currently they are offering $5 off their pallets and lip collections) heads-up on new products and last goodbyes for colours that are retiring so you can stick up if a fave is headed off into the sunset. There is nothing in it for me, no free swag or anything like that, but there could be eternal love and devotion from some lucky recipients should you decide to knock some socks off and stock up some purses!

Wishing you a day as limitless (and as colourful!) as you are~

Choose Your Own Adventure: Wedding Party Fashion Addition

Photo via mywedding.com

I am a late bloomer. I'm finally learning to swim, at the same time that my nephews, aged 4 and 2 are - I'm clearly a significantly older student! I got my first tattoo in my twenties, and I was in a wedding party for the first time in my thirties. Thankfully, I didn't have to endure a lot of dress drama* because the bride was a cool-ass mother-trucker who had only two dress requirements:

1) dresses needed to be floor-length;
2) dresses needed to be black.

Umm, a long black dress? Talk about a piece of cake!**   THANK YOU APRIL!!!*** Our bridal party ended up looking pretty fly, because we were on the same page for the big details but given pretty broad scope to find our dream dress.  So, can I tell you how much I loved this Buzzfeed post showing just how much pop there is in a mix 'n' match bridal party? I loved this idea and these looks SOOO MUCH.

*~Now THIS is how you make a bridal party pop! ~*

Each of the folks in your wedding party has their own unique personality and will bring something special to the day, by virtue of who they are.  How cool would it be to see what would happen if you lay down a few guidelines (like colour or length) and see where this leads your party people? Could your vision plus their style equal a marriage made in fashion heaven?!  This article is a great cheat-sheet on how to guidelines to help create a wedding party look that is personalized and unique and celebrates each person!

*~Mix'n'Match 101~*

And this can also apply to the gents in both wedding parties because there's no limit on how much fantastic style you can have at one wedding!

*~And THIS is how you keep the style poppin' for the rest of the party!~*

A little style p0rn to start the week!

* - There was still a little drama for me; dress shopping gives me anxiety like nothing else can so there was a lot of stress-sweats and hiding out in various dressing rooms. Also a lot of swear words. Sorry, April!

** - It ended up NOT being a piece of cake, due to said anxiety and I went to a lot of stores. A LOT, as in double-digits. And I dragged April to every single one. Every. Single. One. SORRY APRIL!!

*** - THANK YOU APRIL!!! = Thank you for not kicking me out of your wedding party even though I was a pain in the arse. You really are a cool-ass mother-trucker.

#TBT - Mariah Carey

Photo via legacy recordings.com

Before her current boyfriend, billionaire (and reported Miranda Kerr ex) James Packer, before current ex-husband Nick Cannon, and before DEM BABIES! butterfly-lovin' songstress Mariah Carey married Sony Music executive Tommy Mottola in a lavish ceremony in 1993.  She was one of the biggest music stars at that time, a vocal diva with a five octave range, and her wedding was as grand as her voice! Mimi's Vera Wang dress was a nod to Princess Diana's dress with a 27-foot train, she had fifty flower girls and the price tag for the celebration checked in at $500,000, yep - half a million dollars! She enjoyed a decidely less-showy wedding when she married Nick Cannon but who knows, if things keep going strong with her new boyfriend and they decide to tie the knot, maybe we could see another huge wedding. For now, we'll always have this.......

A Tip or Two (or TEN!)

Photo:Glamour.com

Do you keep yours in a shoebox?
Do you have a mini-army or a few choice soldiers you send into battle when you need to shine?
Are yours embellished, blinged out, dagger-sharp and FIERCE? Or are they the standard in classic style and shape? And just how will you style them on the Big Day??!!

#TBT - Posh and Becks

Back in the olden days - the 1990's - a Posh Girl named Victoria Adams met a soccer phenom named David Beckham and they became the power couple to inspire all future power couples.  She was a Spice Girl, he was a Soccer Boy and together, they rocked the frostiest frosted tips, motorcycle chic, double denim madness, Club Kid Couture, California Dreaming and every look in between!

*~David and Victoria Beckham over the years~*

Their wedding would, of course, be an extravagant affair to remember.... As pop culture royalty, they actually had a pair of thrones -  as in, large ornate chairs reserved for Kings and Queens! - at their reception.  With a nod to their majestic  theme, they cut their wedding cake decked out in matching purple outfits - a colour traditionally associated with,  you know, royalty.  Sixteen years and four kids later, they might be less... colourful and flamboyant,  but long gone are the implants (hers) and crushed velvet pants (his) and instead, this is a couple with enviable style who have lasted an eternity in celebrity years!

*~A Beckham Love Story~*

Put on your platform shoes and zig-a-zig-ahhhh while you flashback with the Beckhams!

Warm-and-fuzzy Wednesday!

Photo via Pinterest

One thing that's never in short supply at a wedding - VID's.  Very Important Dames! Every where you look there's a beautiful lady.... Brides, bridesmaids, maids of honour, mothers of the bride and groom, grandmothers,  sisters and aunts and everyone in between. I love the way a grandmother is just beaming and tickled pink to see her granddaughter in her wedding finery.   It's like she's seeing her for the first time and falling in love with her, just like she did the first time she ever laid eyes on her. So I might've been a little teary-eyed - in the best way possible! - when I came across this on Buzzfeed:

I'm a huge fan of including Grandmas on the big day, all things permitting (like health and/or mobility) and this post made my life. These are flower girls with presence! And while this was awesome, I also saw this post:

Two sweet ways to include the ladies who knew you back, waaaaaaay back! But don't be limited to these two! Even a touching gesture like a tricked-out, fancy chair during the ceremony, a special corsage or flowered adornment that matches with the bridal party, or being escorted down the aisle during the ceremony just prior to the wedding party - there's a place in every wedding day for the truly special people in your life.  So, take a step towards your future with your past at your side (figuratively or literally)!

Making Memories Memorable!

Photo via alowcountrywed.com

A few weeks ago, I featured a lovely, sweet way to turn wedding cards into a beautiful memento of the big day..... Well, a few days ago I saw a really cool framed image of lip prints - it was a lipstick kiss from all the people who were part of a bachelorette party, nestled safely under glass and I thought,  'Yessssss!'  It is the most awesome combination of souvenir and art, and guaranteed to make you smile and evoke a favourite memory every time you walk by!

I found a few more ways to create some great keepsakes of your wedding day (or bachelorette party, if you steal a kiss from your ladies and gents!) and I lovelovelove them all!

#TBT - Celine Dion Part 1: Wedding Day

(Photo via dailycaller.com)

I have a secret soft-spot for Celine Dion.  She is technicolor, in a monochrome landscape! When you watch her interviews, she is animated, warm and ingratiating,  emotionally unguarded and almost uncomfortably romantic and sentimental.... and I like it! A few years ago, my best friend took her mom to a Celine Dion concert  within weeks of us seeing Sam Roberts (another Quebecer, albeit a very different type of artist!) and she said that the show blew her away..... Costume changes that got better each time, great production, choreography and lighting, killer vocals, amazing interaction with her audience - my friend wasn't an huge fan before the show, but walked out in awe of the great experience, and raved about what a high-energy, entertaining show this lady put on.  Her music isn't necessarily my favourite; I don't own any of her CDs  but we do have a copy of 'Unison' lurking in the basement in our treasure-trove of cassette tapes (I gave to to my husband in 1991 when we were dating, which instantly makes me sound old.  Probably apropos since it is Throwback Thursday. Now, excuse me while I catch up on my Golden Girls!#getitBlancheDevereaux)

Now fast forward slightly to 1994, when I married my cassette-carrying hubby and less than two months later, Celine married her Rene. While we share our marriage years, believe me, that's where the similarities end. My wedding day was inspired by the togetherness of an '80's sitcom family, with a dash of the '90's grunge attitude (hence the infamous pantsuit instead of a fancy, princess dress; then I growled and kicked of my high heels at the first available moment and spent the rest of the night barefoot) and the budget of, well, there was no budget. You have to have money to have a budget and we didn't have a whole lot, but we knew we just wanted to start our lives together, and all we needed that day was the officiant to make it legal and to break bread with the seventeen people we invited. Ms. Dion was inspired by the opulence of Versailles-meets-Vegas, the beauty of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, and going very big or going home (and she was NOT going home!)

Her wedding dress and overall look was very oooooold-school and something Marie Antoinette would have rocked the hell out of;  a dress that required a thousand hours of work, studded with pearls throughout, a twenty foot train, sleeves were belled with a metric ton of flare, the hip was exaggerated, the waist was cinched in and she topped it off with a crystal headpiece that weighed twenty pounds and had to be sewn onto her head!!!  The reception was opulence realized - as it was a December wedding, there were snowflakes falling lightly over the course of the evening and doves cooing and flying overhead. Yes, snow and doves. This girl had Vegas in her before she ever got there!! Oh, and her cake? It was simple little affair, a tower of profiteroles (cream puffs) - a mere 2,677 little puffs of glory in a towering showpiece. Mon dieu!

While this wedding was extravagant and expensive (this is what half a million dollars could get you 21 years ago!) in lieu of wedding gifts, they asked instead for donations to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Her niece has died the previous year from the disease and her wedding gifts gave to the Foundation to the tune of $200,000, and she is still a champion for the cause today. So let's take a look back at some pictures of this 1990's wedding that ended 1994 on a glitzy note and philanthropic note!

Weepy Wednesday!

(Photo via bridalmusings.com)

Cold, rainy, miserable - it is just the weather, or my heart? I'm being melodramatic, but today, I met up with April as her firstborn - and my first nephew! - embarked in his first day of school. A newly minted JK'er and one teary-eyed aunt!  I'm so happy and proud of him for being a brave guy, but it made me a little emotional to see Tricks all decked out in his uniform.   All of a sudden, he was so grown up and I wondered just where the time went!  I hugged April and my brother-in-law and congratulated them on this momentous occasion, and realized that today's post would be therapy for me.... I needed to find a way to not look at 'school' as a nephew-stealer and (aunt's) soul crusher! Ok, ok, all exaggerating and being dramatic aside, wouldn't you know it, I felt instantly happy and inspired looking at some awesome school-themed wedding ideas. I wrote previously about my love affair with  autumn and we all have memories of our school days - good, bad, and ugly! - but these ideas take some of the cutest, sweetest, warmest and coziest memories and create a canvas for a slew of whole new memories. Enjoy!!

Time of the Season... And a shameless plug or two!

Happy Labour Day! As the first day of school creeps up on us, we start to feel the slight changes happening all around us - and we can see it in the colours all around us!  Fireflies make way for fireplaces, sarongs are replaced by scarves, and we're awash in shades of gold, plum, red, orange, blue and brown.  Above, you'll see the colours that will feature heavily in the upcoming months, as reported by the colour gurus at Pantone. There's something cozy, enveloping and ultimately comforting, when we think of the season we're tiptoeing towards, so I thought it was a good time to hype the magic of a Fall wedding!

April and I aren't returning to school, but if we were and had to write an essay on what we did this summer, half the essay would be about Limitless Events' newly redesigned website....

...... and the other half of said essay would be about what we did on Pinterest:

We've got a fever...and the only prescription is Pinterest!

So please, take a peek at our site to get a feel for what we do, and check in often on Pinterest to get a feel for who we are and what gets our hearts racing!

#TBT - Pamela Anderson Take One! Take Two!! Take Three!!!

This week has been hotter-than-hot, we've hit forty degrees on the humidex scale and today felt like a day that was begging to be spent with the A/C on and a pitcher of something frothy and fizzy. I can't imagine the poor brides and grooms getting married this weekend in this sweltering heat, decked out in suits and dresses and bustles...... This would be the perfect weekend to have a beach weekend, with a swimsuit or bikini and sarong and hopefully a nice breeze! So it seemed fitting, on Throwback Thursday to look back at one of the most famous beach weddings - Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock.  Sex-y on the Beach? The ultimate stripped-down wedding? You be the judge!

Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock's demure St. Tropez wedding

Before Kid Rock, there was Tommy Lee and this wedding wasn't as casual and was a decidedly more traditional event and she looked radiant.

....... And after Kid Rock was Rick Salomon. Was the third time the charm? Marriage-wise no, the couple have since split. But style-wise?  She married the traditional and put-together bride from wedding #1 with the fun, party girl from wedding #2 to create a wedding look that was fun and sexy but less.... skimpy.

So which Wedding Day Pamela did you like or remember the most? And if there is another marriage foe her down the road (down the aisle?) what do you think we can expect from the bride?

Wonderful Wednesday!

April and I did a wedding a couple weeks ago where our bride's son was singled out and involved in a really cool way.  During the reception, he was going to be seated between his mom and his new dad at the head table.  At the rehearsal dinner,  we had gifted the couple with monogrammed toasting flutes and had surprised them with a monogrammed goblet for him as well, so he was livin' like a rock star that night with his very own glass.  But his mom wanted to find a meaningful way to include him during the ceremony.   She found a way to celebrate her son during one of the most important moments in her life; the best man 'lost' the rings and put out a frantic SOS by radio and along came our hero,  Secret Agent-style, a sharp dressed man in shades, outfitted with a sleek briefcase and the missing jewellery.  'Crisis' averted, and his entrance was greeted by thunderous applause.  It was such a great moment, seeing him dash up the aisle to save the day!  There are so many unique ways to include the people you love fiercely on your big day. I  across a great story on Buzzfeed earlier in the summer and it stayed with me and I'm passing it along to you!
