Wednesday Warm-Up!

In the spirit of the ol' adage, 'It's 5:00 somewhere in the world!', I humbly invite you to our virtual Happy Hour as we take a closer look at signature wedding cocktails!

Salut and Cheers with some beautiful classics!

One of the big trends for 2016 is featuring special cocktails or drinks during the cocktail hour or throughout the reception in honour of the couple. This can be one or a few unique, one-of-a-kind concoctions that feature your favourite liqueurs or flavour combinations or they can be a few of your  very favourite cocktails.  Here is a look at some swanky winter cocktails that would play beautifully in a winter wedding scenario:

If you're looking for a winter warm-up without the buzz, maybe a Hot Chocolate Bar beckons?

2015 Best-of: Cake Edition

My fave or the year!
Via olofsondesign.com

D'you know how chefs tell us that we eat with our eyes as much as we eat with our mouths? Well, I dare you to look at this eye-catching, mouth-watering list of the loveliest wedding cakes of the year and NOT feel a grumbling in your stomach!  This list has it all - from traditional to modern, ombré tones to painted, even a secret superhero deal - and by the time I got to the last featured cake, I was wishing my iPad had a Smell-O-Vision app and that I had something remotely dessert-y in the house,  just a little vanilla-bean flecked, buttercreamed bump!

Your Wedding Dress: The Day/Week/Month/Year After!

We hope you all had a great couple days of holiday shenanigans, festive hijinx and good times all around with all your favourites!  As always, it went way too quickly, there were way fewer cookies than I would've liked and I couldn't get enough of my dad's stuffing.  But, if  these were indeed my biggest problems this Christmas, then I had a really, really good holiday!

So, in the middle of all the looking forward - to New Years Eve, STAR WARS NIGHT! with April and my brother-in-law (yep, the force was strong with us, we waited an ungodly amount of time to make plans to see the movie!), the endless tying up the best of 2015 and the best projections of 2016, I came across a piece that kind of seemed appropriate as we close out the year, especially for brides who took a stroll down the aisle this year.  What do you do with your wedding dress, post-big day?

*~Wedding dress 'what now?'~*

There are some great ideas, the first idea speaks to the bride-to-be who might be considering a non-traditional dress that she can wear again and how marching to the beat of your ow drum = a dress that isn't relegated to one day.  This might sound strange but consider this: Keira Knightley's adorable, ballerina-sequel Chanel wedding dress? She wore it to a party in 2008 - five years before she got married. AND she wore it to the SeriousFun Gala a few months after her nuptials. Each time she wore it, she was styled a little differently for a unique look, but make no mistake, this is the epitome of wearing something you lovelovelove to get married - and finding a way to wear your gorgeous dress AFTER your wedding day!

One dress, three ways:

....and post-wedding!

Some of the ideas weren't my favourites at all - like trashing the dress. Sadness!  Wedding dresses are soooooo beautiful; like a piece of art.  I mean, someone (or a few someones, depending on how intricate your dress is) spent HOURS working on it and it feels almost cruel to not honour that, you know? But then my heartbea returned to normal and I unclenched my fists when the article rolled around to my absolute favourite idea, to display your dress. Again, wedding dresses are BEAUTIFUL. Brides look absolutely stunning in these creations - so what could be better than giving your dress a little VIP treatment? Cleaned, pressed and framed, right next to your favourite wedding picture.

( Full disclosure: I'm dying for April to do this because her dress was a real beauty, so I'm highlighting this idea here. No pressure, April. No pressure!)

#TBT - A 2015 Recap of Oohs, Ahhs, Whoas and a Whaaat?!

As we're quickly approaching the holidays, we're seeing year end lists popping up steadily - movie lists,  album lists, song lists, all sorts of lists compiling the best moments of the year. So even though these moments are still less than a year old, Buzzfeed came out with a list of their memorable wedding moments of the year!

There are so many moments that stood out for us that made it to this list, and my personal faves were one photographer's call to arms to stash cellphones at weddings.......

Wednesday Winfall?

Via fabulouslybroke.com

Budgeting for a wedding is a gargantuan task.  Sometimes I visualize the financial aspect of wedding planning like a game of dodgeball. Here's how it goes down: Unless you have a very healthy (read: super-substantial) wedding nest-egg, you have to lay out all of your wedding wants and wishes on one side; your proposed budget and needs face off on the other side, armed with big, red, rubber balls and it's a battle to the end! 'Decor Budget' throws the ball, and 'Doves released when Happy Couple are pronounced married' takes a hit to the chin and is out of the game.   'Catering Budget' fires a grenade but ''Late Night Seafood Service' catches the ball, victorious. 'Wedding Day Attire' takes aim, and 'Manolo Blahnik' takes the hit, to keep 'Badgley Mischka' in the game.  See? It's a battle royale when you pit what you want against what you need with your budget as the referee!

With all the trimming, tweaking, and sometimes outright culling during wedding planning and prep,  $10,000 would be a lovely, much-appreciated injection to the budget, right? Enter SwanLuv, a new Seattle-based company that is coming to the rescue with the opportunity to add a cool ten G's to your wedding account. There is criteria you must meet and they'll assess each couple's potential longevity but, if you are approved the money is yours, but at a price: if you divorce, it'll cost you.  Should your marriage end, you would have to pay the amount back, plus interest.  Here's a little more info on what SwanLuv is offering!

It'll be interesting to see where SwanLuv will be, a year from now!

Monday Night Magic!

Via weddingomania.com

It's December 14th and as of today, Christmas Eve is 10 days away, we've had our snow tires on the car for weeks, the Christmas tree has been up and drenched in colours and lights since the end of November .... and we have yet to see a speck, a trace, even so much as a whisper of snow!  There's a very good chance we'll be having a green holiday, which will make songs like, 'White Christmas' and 'Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!' seem mocking and just plain cruel.  But, if like me, you're having a little snow withdrawal and aren't feeling as festive because of the balmy weather, can I offer you a little dose of snow, by way of a wedding that was brushed with a freak snowfall?

*~Mother Nature lends a hand with the wedding decor: A wedding dusted with snow!~*

The snow must've thrown them for a loop, but they kept calm and carried on, managing to pull off a lovely day despite an unexpected guest AND capture some truly beautiful photographs as well!  Congrats to the happy couple!

Wednesday Woo

Via countryhousewedding.co.uk

I've been married for aaaages, 21 years to be exact, and I swear, if I had a dollar every time my husband has said, 'I don't have to impress you anymore, we're married!' I would be a very rich lady.  And with all that cash, eventually divorced!  He's always joking, because he'll have barely gotten the words out before he's laughing, immediately hug me, and of course I'll feign indignance or being hurt but I know (hope?!) he's giving me the business.  And even though we're still good (I think we might be in for the long-haul!) I saw an article that made me, 'Awwwww!' for a second and think about how seemingly little gestures can say a whole lot!

#MarriageGoals, right? And I wondered, would the gesture seem as sweet in reverse, if a wife or the original person who was proposed to (the proposee) became the proposer? So I've decided that I'm going to give this a spin, and propose to my husband every day for a year!  Wish me luck!

What A Wonderful World! Wanderlust Proposal, Coincidental Photos and a Baby

Warning: this is a sleep-deprived but very 'excited Auntie' announcement:  Limitless Events has grown by one....one new son and nephew, to be specific! April challenged my superstition of 3AM being 'The Witching Hour' by giving birth to an angelic baby boy and we are incredibly lucky and privileged to welcome him into our family... Congratulations April and Seb!!!

Now that I'm deep in the new-baby-excitement and everything seems magical and fairytale-esque, here is a story that made my winter-lovin', Nordic-obsessed heart leap when I read it last week.... A British couple, Michael and Fiona, took a trip to Iceland where Michael planned on popping the big question.  So in the middle of Reykjavik, on a snowy night that makes you feel like you're living inside a delicate , beautiful snow globe, Michael got down on one knee and asked Fiona to marry him. And in a stroke of luck and happenstance, a lady walking home from work taking pictures of the snowfall, captured a gorgeous image!

Gorgeous....just gorgeous!

*~The proposal of my dreams is a reality for one couple!~*

This story is made of win! It's got it all - a couple in love, an ethereal setting, SNOW!, a proposal and the icing on the cake - a beautiful picture for posterity..... Enjoy!

Wednesday Wedding SCOOOOOOOOORE!

What do you do, when you're a hockey-lovin' couple who now live on the other side of the globe in New Zealand, but are returning to the bride's hometown of Minnesota for the wedding AND there's a Minnesota Wild game the same day you get married?

Via courtesy blogs.mprnews.org

You do it all, baby! Ceremony, followed by reception, followed by a much-missed hockey game, complete with good stadium eats and a shot of adrenaline! Bride and Groom Erika and Lewis, still dressed in their wedding finery, enjoyed a hometown game following their wedding. Erika also arranged for Lewis to check out the team practice earlier, which was an amazing gift on its own, but then, after the excitement of the ceremony and reception, they capped off the night at the game.

*~ Glam Date Night - A Bride and Groom Have a Hockey Date on their Wedding Day!~*

Erika is my hero, because she is fearless in that dress - she's eating a burger in an arena and she couldn't look any happier!  If there's one lesson to be learned here, it's to live your big day in exactly the way you want.  While this is a pretty extreme (and let's be real, extremely awesome) example, you can make your day as special as you want it to be, even in little details. Does your partner geek out over superheroes? Why not have comic book heroes feature in either comic-paper flower boutonnières,  pocket kerchiefs or ties?  Did you and your significant other first exchange, 'I love you's over late night hot chocolates? Then how about a late night, decked-out hot chocolate station at midnight?  Personal touches can work themselves into your big day in a million different ways!
